Use and Application

 

R407C is a ternary HFC mixture (R32, R125 and R134a) and was primarily developed as a replacement for R22 .

Areas of application:

  • Air conditioning systems: Split air conditioning systems, compact air conditioning units and VRF systems.

  • Commercial refrigeration: Medium-temperature applications (cold rooms, supermarket refrigeration units).

  • Heat pumps: Residential and commercial heat pumps.

  • Industrial applications: Retrofit in medium temperature ranges where R22 was previously used.

Properties:

  • No ozone depletion potential (ODP = 0).

  • GWP ~1774 (medium level).

  • Similar performance to R22 → Retrofit possible, but oil change required (POE oil).

  • Slight temperature glide (Glide ~7 K), therefore careful system adaptation necessary.

Summary:
R407C is mainly used in air conditioning and heat pump systems as a substitute for R22 and is also common in commercial applications in the medium temperature range .
